Family owned and operated specialist renewable energy and industrial electonics business

Graeme EbbettEbbett Automation Ltd was established in 1974 by Graeme Ebbett as an instrumentation and control systems company with a team of technician/engineers providing services to factories throughout the greater Wellington area.

Trade and Engineering Registration

Graeme originally served apprenticeships in each of the electrical and industrial instrumentation trades. He gained advanced trade qualifications and went on to achieve formal technician/engineering registration as an electrical engineer.

He has been a senior member of a number of associated professional organisations over the years including the NZ Institute of Engineering Technicians, the Electronics Institute and Institute of Measurement and Control NZ. For the latter, he served as Wellington President for a number of years and achieved membership status of “Fellow”.

Experience

In the early 1980’s Graeme designed and developed a range of power inverters (230v from batteries) which the company successfully marketed as a household name in outback New Zealand and the marine industry. Small volumes are still produced today for specialist applications in industry, telecoms and the Army etc.

Experience with power inverters for over 40 years has led the company to gain expertise in the generation of power from renewable energy (solar, wind and micro-hydro).

Award winner

In 1995 the company designed and built the Kapiti Island Remote Area Power Supply system (RAPS) which won the national ETA award for energy efficiency in industry, small business category.

Expertise

Industrial quality battery chargers designed by Graeme have NATO accreditation. Urgent custom designed and built power converters have enabled use of specialised lifesaving military equipment in Afghanistan. More recently Graeme has operated as “Energy Doctor“ for the Sustainability Trust in the Porirua area of Wellington, providing free consultancy on warm and healthy homes.
